Ok So Let's Get the Survival Kit & other helpful hints..
When it comes to survival kits we will talk about muggle kits and wizard kits. Primary kits and Secondary kits. The primary and secondary mostly refer to those without magic.
Muggle Primary Kits
When we talk about the primary kits, it refers to a kit that is for your sole survival. These kits are usually something that can make a person survive for about 3 days before they need to replenish. You are not supposed to hole up in one place and expect some living human to find you. You need to find a secure place that can be a semi long term living area where you and your group can be self sufficient. Your Primary Kit should include items like this: (Remember this is a kit for yourself, this doesn't include items if you have a child or animal with you. If you have an army/navy store or an out door survival store near you, make way to this store because you can find most if not ALL of these items here. If there isn't you may need to stop at a few places to grab these items.
Muggles Secondary Survival Kit
A Secondary kit is important also but if you do not have it you can still survive long enough to acquire these items. These items can also come in handy if you are now in a group of people that have children or pets or older adults. Items in this pack should include:
Since the wizard has magic to rely on he/she doesn't need as many items to carry or do they need to worry about the weight of their backpack. A wizard or which should definitely have with them:

- Water, you need to have at least one gallon of water that you can last on for 3 days. You can also pick up some water purifying tablets also if you need to pick up some water on the way and are not sure about the cleanliness of it.
- Food to last for at least three days. Make sure they are the non perishable type (canned items, or cereal, crackers, jerky, nuts) or get some MREs (Meals ready to eat). These are vacuum sealed, self heating, and sometimes add water meals in a pack. They can range from chicken pasta to roast beef.
- a battery powered radio and extra batteries for that radio. Make sure the radio isn't that big so maybe a hand radio or even an MP3 players that can get radio stations.
- Matches
- your identification cards/papers (if the government needs to know who you are)
- Flashlight & extra batteries for that
- a basic first aid kit (bandaids, gauze, alcohol swabs, tape, and a wrap that can be used if you sprain an ankle or wrist)
- Dust mask to help filter and protect you from contaminated air.
- A plastic sheet that is big enough to shelter you from the elements of nature if you are staying outside.
- Twine or some rope. You never know what you made need it for
- Plastic bags/toilet paper/garbage bags. - This will be your portable toilet.
- wrench, pliers, hammer, some nails, electrical tapes or silver tape and screwdriver - can be used as weapons and to work on anything electrical or if you are trying to build something in a hurry.
- Can opener for your food if you have cans.
- A Machete/crowbar/fire ax for a weapon. If you have a gun good. But remember you may not have the bullets. So you want to save them until you really need it.
- and some local maps to know where you need to go and the quickest route.
- A good sturdy backpack. Not just a normal student back pack, but if it's all you have it will have to do. You want a back pack that is used for backpacking.
- I would also include your cellphone and/or laptop in the primary kit. You never know if there will be some type of connection with the outside world. The Cell towers maybe down in one area, but since you will be moving constantly they may be up in another. Plus you can always have that one genius person that can find a connection somehow by configuring some whatchumacallits to the satellite in space (HEY IT COULD HAPPEN!)
Muggles Secondary Survival Kit
A Secondary kit is important also but if you do not have it you can still survive long enough to acquire these items. These items can also come in handy if you are now in a group of people that have children or pets or older adults. Items in this pack should include:
- Prescription medications or OTC medicine like aspirin (if its not in your first aid kit) eye drops, cough drops, etc., your eye glasses or reading glasses (the eyeglasses can be used to start fires) You can stop at a pharmacy and raid their stash to find medicines essential to not only you but to the group. Medicines like heart, blood pressure, diabetic, asthma, pain relievers, and antibiotic medicines.
- Baby formula, pet food, diapers or babies and adults.
- Survival manuals. Like a Back to basic living book or How to Splint a broken bone, etc.
- Sleeping Bag, blankets
- Extra sneakers and clothing (if you are in a cold area some clothing to keep you warm)
- fire extinguisher
- Regular unscented bleach/chlorine (to be used as a disinfectant or if you do not have purifying pills for water, 16 drops of bleach into 1 gallon of water will purify it enough for drinking).
- Feminine products for women
- maybe some books or coloring books to keep the kids busy. Kids are fussy and get scared easily. Best to keep their mind busy.
- Maybe stop to get an RV or car because you will always be on the run. Better to get away faster than just running while waiting for some people to catch up. (If someone falls behind leave them, if you try and stay and help you may be a casualty of the zombie war.) Also, try stopping at the gas station to fill up extra containers of gas. Don't want to be standing in line while trying pump gas.
- Fix-A-Flat can and kit. This is a tiny can of foam that will fix a tire with a relatively small to medium sized puncture it will also have a tiny rubber sealant to seal the outside hole. Also, carry an air pump (bike pump will do) to re-inflate the tire if it lost too much air.
- Some say have a bike (like the book Zombie Survival Guide) which is good, but remember, you can only go as fast as your legs can take you. So this is a good way of transportation because it is quieter than a car, but it relies on your own body for fuel. So this is handy so maybe attach it to your car or RV.
Since the wizard has magic to rely on he/she doesn't need as many items to carry or do they need to worry about the weight of their backpack. A wizard or which should definitely have with them:
- Wand & Broom - 2 most important items for a wizard because if they can't apparate, at least they can fly away to safety and if the wizard can't cast a spell without a wand or is poor at casting a spell without a wand, having the wand would be key in performing those spells.
- potions for healing broken bones or scrapes
- Floo powder
- food
- water
- tent
- Change of clothes (if you are in cold weather, something to keep you warm)
- weapon (something non magical like a sword, bat, crowbar)
- pen and paper to write to your friends or family on your whereabouts (owl mail)
- an owl
