What are Safe Areas?
What are safe areas? there are none during a zombie apocalypse, only "safer" areas. Remember, zombies can sense a place that is hidden under spells because of the flesh they smell from the living. so a cloaking spell or shielding charm will be ineffective. Some of the basic rules to having a safer "safe house" is to have a place that is higher off the ground, a fortified walled in city, places that don't have a lot of windows, in the country type setting and a place that is near sustainable foods. Also remember, being a wizard or part of the magical world can be an an advantage to a point because of their ability to get to higher ground faster and build certain fortifications faster than a muggle, but the magic world is still susceptible to the dead population. The magic world cannot hide with magic. The key to any safe are is to KNOW YOUR SURROUNDING. After you find a place and fortify it, make yourself aware of the surroundings and possible other building/stores/houses surrounding your safe house. Carefully, safely, & with a couple people go out and survey the area. It is always a good idea to have a map of your current location. (remember lesson 2 should be part of your primary survival kit).
So lets first take the NOT SO SAFE areas first. This applies to both muggle and wizards.
You may think a place like a mall, a Walmart, or some Warehouse type store like Sam's or Costco's is an ideal place to hideout because of the vast amount of supplies and food. However, places like this are usually a single floor and very accessible to the dead population. Again, this place is fine for the time being because you have the ability to gather supplies, but stay for a bit and GET OUT.
A sky rise type building can be a good thing and a bad thing. While the sky rise building is high off the ground and you can seal off each floor, you must realize that the higher you get in the building, the harder it will get to get out of the building. You will either have to rely on someone with a helicopter rescuing you off the roof of the building (some government official or some flying helicopter genius good Samaritan) or you will have to battle your way back down the lower levels to get out of the building.
Probably the worst place to stay is ANYWHERE in the city. A city is known for their population, so if this apocalypse happens, there will be a massive zombie population in that city. So leave the city as soon as you can!

- Your own house
- Mall
- warehouse
- sky rise building (good and bad list)
- anywhere in a city (massive population = massive amounts of zombies)

Safe(R) Areas
When it comes to a safer areas(for both muggle and wizard), the ideal place would be somewhere out in the country where there is very little human population. This means that there is few/little infected. Of course this doesn't mean that there aren't any zombies out in the country. ALWAYS BE PREPARED. CONSTANT VIGILANCE PEOPLE!!!
Of course being a wizard/witch does have its advantages. One can apparate or fly to their destination relatively easily and quickly. Just make sure if you apparate that you are prepared to defend yourself once you arrive at your destination. You never know what will be at the other end. It could be another witch/wizard or it could be a flesh eating ZOMBIE!!!
For the Muggles...well you just need to get to safer areas by the normal car ride, bike, horseback....yes I said horseback or by your own two feet. There is no magical way to get there, you just need to get there. There is a disadvantage for muggles when it comes to building a safe house. The disadvantage is...they need to physically build/fortify the safe house, whereas a witch or wizard can flick their wand and voila a home is built. Sorry muggles, that is your disadvantage in this whole zombie apocalypse, the slowness in everything you do.
Remember, when you get to these areas, this is meant to be your long(er) term place of residence. This is the place where you will try to live away from the infected city. You need food to live. Water to drink. Water to grow food. So a place by/near water is ideal. Also, you either want to have a place that is fortified by walls, like a castle, or a place with thick cement block like walls. This will make it harder for zombies to come in IF they happen to find you in the countryside.
Since zombies aren't known to climb, a home off the ground like a tree house, would be another good idea. A house underground is another great idea, not only for the fact you are hiding your location from the zombies, but when the weather is hot, you won't need air condition and vice versa for cold weather. Downside, you need to make your way outside to get the food and possible water if you don't come up with some sort of irrigation.
However, my ideal place to live is ON the water. Zombies aren't known for their swimming so living on the water is ideal for the mobility, food supply, and water supply. The only downside to living on the water is if you are using a gas operated boat, you need to either make your way to land FOR gas or jimmy up some sort of wind power/human power to move the boat once all the gas is gone.
Now these are the safest living area, but by no means are these 100% safe. There is always a danger that the infection will travel into the countryside via infected person, zombie, or by air born virus. So always keep a Plan B handy if you need to leave in a hurry. YOU ARE NEVER FULLY SAFE! Not until we know what caused this problem, the threat will always remain.

Top 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse
This top 10 list was taken from the book "The Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks.
The Zombie Survival Guide is your key to survival against the hordes of undead who may be stalking you right now. Fully illustrated and exhaustively comprehensive, this book covers everything you need to know, including how to understand zombie physiology and behavior, the most effective defense tactics and weaponry, ways to outfit your home for a long siege, and how to survive and adapt in any territory or terrain.

- Organize before they rise!
- They feel no fear, why should you?
- Use your head: cut off theirs.
- Blades don’t need reloading.
- Ideal protection = tight clothes, short hair.
- Get up the staircase, then destroy it.
- Get out of the car, get onto the bike. (See Lesson 2 in my disagreement about this. While good to have a bike, I like the car better)
- Keep moving, keep low, keep quiet, keep alert!
- No place is safe, only safer.
- The zombie may be gone, but the threat lives on.
